One of the most difficult parts of my transition from the telecommunications industry to medicine was coping with how incredibly poor communication is in medical education settings. I found myself regularly craving a way to reach my fellow residents, and I found medical students and residents often had many of the same questions, but no way to share information.
I have set up several discussion lists to try to enhance communication among health care providers.

Too complicated? Having problems? Just email your question or request to listmom@risley.net and it will be handled personally.
The following lists are currently active:
An open list for the discussion of wireless technologies associated with Macintosh computers.
A unofficial discussion list originally for anyone using Shane McKee's excellent WardFive patient management software for Psion/EPOC -- now expanded to include all medically-oriented Psion/EPOC users.
A discussion list for residents at UCDMC who are interested in the housestaff union and the upcoming certification election.
The official mailing list of Guerilla Physician Online, a resource for doctors and their patients who are struggling against the injustices of managed care organizations.
A discussion list for anyone interesting in combined residency training programs in family medicine and psychiatry.
A discussion list for volunteers at the Joan Viteri Memorial Clinic in Sacramento, California.
A closed list* for residents in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the UC Davis Health System.
A closed list* for residents in the Department of Psychiatry at the UC Davis Health System.
A closed list* for residents taking combined training in family medicine and psychiatry at the UC Davis Health System.
*Subscriptions to closed lists are limited. Eligibility will be checked by the list mom before a subscription will be granted -- this could take a day or more.
